Job Summary:
The Utilization Management Specialist provides clerical support to the Utilization Review and Preauthorization teams to assist with patient transitions. Provides payor documentation through the provision of information to payors, documentation of authorizations and payor clinical information requests in the electronic health record.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
A minimum of three (3) years of related experience is required. Experience working in a hospital billing office and/or admitting, health insurance and managed care program, Medicare and managed care denial management experience, preferred.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Billing and clinical coding or medical terminology coursework, preferred. Associate or Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field, preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:
Analytical skills necessary to obtain information from patients and families, external customers, and ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers including hospital personnel and peers. Good organizational skills. Excellent communication skills. Effective application of Microsoft Office products, document imaging.

Pay is expected to be between: (expressed as hourly) $21.16 - $28.78. Final compensation is based on experience and will be discussed with you by the recruiter during the interview process.

They must maintain a thorough understanding of medical processes and actively participate in continuing education to apply complex coding guidelines effectively.
The Patient Account Specialist handles all inbound phone calls, researches customer issues, collects necessary information and payments, and responds to inquiries via fax, email, and calls. Key duties involve accurately updating patient accounts, providing high-level customer service, managing collections of unpaid balances, and analyzing insurance claims and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
