Job Description

Role Description

Directs and coordinates fabrication, installation, operation, application, maintenance and repair of mechanical or electromechanical machines, equipment, tools, engines and systems. Ensures that quality levels and industry standards are maintained or improved in the manufacturing process. Oversees installation, operation, maintenance and repair of equipment such as centralized heat, gas, water and steam systems. Evaluates mechanical products to determine their cost effectiveness and efficiency. May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions. Experience in Solid Rocket Motors is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Provides leadership to managers and may also have professional staff
  • Is accountable for the performance and results of multiple related teams
  • Develops departmental plans, including business, production and/or organizational priorities

Essential Functions

  • Oversees a team of mechanical engineers that design, analyze, and maintain mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards.
  • Utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components and communicate conceptual designs and specifications to stakeholders.
  • Oversees prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and reviews data and analysis to develop improvements.
  • Implements departmental policies and procedures to delegate workflow and ensure projects are completed on time and within required specifications and quality standards.
  • Leads the research and development of innovative or new technologies to improve existing products or processes.
  • Ensures projects follow organizational best practices for design, prototyping, and testing.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination with concurrence from HR & General Managers.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering degree preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.

Travel Requirements

  • Less than 25% travel likely.

Pay Range (USD)

$117,740-$218,660

The salary range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum for salary for this position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, internal equity, and relevant education or training. Additional Compensation - ICP

Hired applicant will be eligible to participate in the Company’s Incentive Compensation Program.
