Job Description

• Ensure a constant and controlled supply of fresh, clean air for underground workers through ventilation studies, performance analyses, and ventilation design • Evaluate and design ventilation systems for underground mines and spaces • Develop system designs for the overall ventilation system and the ventilation infrastructure including main fans, cooling systems, heating systems, auxiliary fans and ventilation controls • Conduct studies for ventilation optimization • Collect data onsite and identify opportunities for energy savings and improvements to the mine ventilation system • Work closely with the client to obtain approval for all assumptions and calculations used in the analysis • Report to the Senior Mine HVAC Engineer • Work as part of a team with other technical staff and disciplines

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in HVAC or equivalent
  • 5-10 years of experience as a HVAC Engineer, preferably with experience in underground mining projects and/or industrial HVAC
  • A Professional Engineering license is preferred (or the ability to become licensed)
  • Practical underground mine development and construction experience is a plus
  • Experience in tunnel and underground cavern ventilation, including familiarity with fire lite safety requirement is a plus
  • Proficient in the use of VentSIM and preferably CFD software (training can be provided to suitable candidates)
  • Working knowledge of business software using Microsoft Word and Excel
