Job Description

OakNorth is a UK-founded digital bank built to support ambitious, growing businesses. Over the past decade, we’ve scaled rapidly, lending over $18bn globally to middle-market and sponsor-backed businesses.  Our US expansion is accelerating. Deal volume has increased significantly, and we are building the next phase of our US lending platform.  We are now hiring a senior CDD professional to sit at the intersection of lending, financial crime risk, and execution - someone who can protect the bank while enabling growth. In This Role: This is not a traditional AML production role.  You will lead the end-to-end onboarding of US corporate lending clients, working directly alongside Credit, Legal, and Deal Teams to support live lending transactions.  You will own the AML CDD component of commercial loan origination, ensuring onboarding keeps pace with lending timelines without compromising regulatory standards.  This role is hands-on. You will execute files personally while also acting as a senior escalation point within the US onboarding function.  You will be embedded in the deal lifecycle. What You’ll Be Responsible For Leading end-to-end onboarding of US middle-market borrowers (typically $5m–$50m facilities). Analysing complex international corporate ownership structures, including sponsor-backed, multi-layer, and cross-border entities. Conducting and reviewing CDD and EDD for US corporate lending clients. Presenting clear, structured financial crime risk conclusions that inform lending decisions. Acting as an escalation point for high-risk clients and complex structures. Balancing regulatory integrity with commercial pace in live deal environments. Partnering closely with our UK-based onboarding team to deliver seamless cross-border coverage. Identifying process improvements to increase throughput and enhance execution capability. Supporting the Lending Lead with transformation initiatives as we scale the US platform. Completing BAU and ad hoc administrative tasks as required. What We're Looking For 5+ years’ experience in AML/KYC/ CIP within a bank or regulated financial institution. Direct experience onboarding US corporate or commercial lending clients. Experience supporting commercial loan origination or working alongside credit teams. Strong exposure to complex ownership structures (including trusts, offshore entities, sponsor-backed structures). Solid understanding of US AML/BSA requirements, including FinCEN expectations and OFAC screening.

Job Requirements

  • Familiarity with UK AML frameworks (MLR 2017 / JMLSG)
  • More importantly, you are:
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-scaling, ambiguous environment.
  • Able to distil complex information into clear, credit-facing recommendations.
  • Confident challenging constructively when financial crime risk concerns arise.
  • Commercially aware and able to balance pace with protection.
  • Comfortable owning outcomes in a visible, high-accountability environment.
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator, with confidence in engaging internal and external stakeholders.
  • Why Join
  • This is an opportunity to join a scaling US lending platform at a pivotal moment.  You will work closely with senior leadership and help shape the next stage of US growth.  This role offers equity participation and the chance to build something meaningful within a high-growth digital bank.
