Job Summary: | The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine seeks an outstanding candidate for a Biostatistician position. This will be a full-time faculty position at the rank of Instructor. Remote work considered for highly qualified candidates. Applicants with a background in statistical and computational methods in molecular biological science and related areas are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join an established team that is leading research efforts in the intersection between brain health and biological processes. The team is one of the premier organizations that has existing clinical and preclinical studies and will continue with future studies that improve psychological health outcomes, detects risk and protective factors in mental health, and determines biological mechanisms associated with brain health. This highly collaborative team performs high-impact studies that allow them to develop new strategies to ameliorate dysbiosis and neuroinflammation and reduce chronic disease burden. Key Responsibilities Bioinformatics Nature of Work: 50%25 Successful individuals will participate in the development, validation, implementation and quality control for bioinformatics. This position will include identifying and implementing state of the art bioinformatics techniques for innovative analysis. Additionally, this position will assist with clinical study development to identify novel biological targets and advises how those measurements can be applied to bioinformatics analysis. Examples of Duties Performed: · Apply basic to intermediate statistical, programming, and epidemiological methods to support research projects. · Prepare, clean, and manipulate datasets for use in detailed data queries and analyses. · Generate tabulations and visual representations of data (e.g., charts, graphs) using report-building tools with minimal oversight. · Interpret analysis results and contribute to drafting clear and concise research reports. · Coordinate tasks and provide guidance to support staff (e.g., Research Assistants, interns) in the preparation of basic research deliverables. · Develop automated scripts, codes, and calculations to streamline recurring tasks and analysis workflows. · Perform data validation and error checking on projects of basic to intermediate complexity under supervision. · Develop detailed specifications and documentation for data analysis files, consistency checks, tables, figures, and project status tracking. · Identify and assess data needs and potential data gaps in collaboration with senior staff. Statistician Nature of Work: 30%25 Providing expertise on analytic methods and plans while managing, preparing, and analyzing data from current program evaluation projects. Supporting electronic medical record database and distributed data network projects in efforts including developing data harmonization, data quality evaluation, and data standardization to support the learning health care system and research Examples of Duties Performed · Assist with data collection and analysis for public health surveillance projects, clinical studies, or similar initiatives. · Respond to data and analysis requests from internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders under direction. · Collaborate with principal investigators, scientists, epidemiologists, and fellow biostatisticians on research efforts. · Communicate statistical methods and results to internal and external clients when directed by senior staff. Technical Writing Nature of Work: 20%25 Provide support for technical writing that includes reports, grant development, and manuscript preparation. Successful individuals will lead development and dissemination of research publications and reports involving the data and analysis conducted. Examples of Duties Performed: · Contribute to technical and scientific writing for reports, publications, and presentations. · Prepare and deliver presentations on assigned basic research topics. · Participate in working groups to address research questions or organizational initiatives. · Provide feedback on internal business processes and help develop documentation for best practices and standards. · Support training and onboarding of junior-level staff and interns. · Maintain a professional, courteous, and respectful demeanor in all interactions with coworkers, clients, and stakeholders. · Actively participate in identifying process improvements and communicating solutions to leadership. | |

The PM&R department has 15 offices with ~2500 square feet of space and 5 cubicles with ~400 square feet of space for faculty and research staff. Qualifications: | Minimum Qualifications: · A PhD degree in a relevant field associated with mathematics, statistics, or computational science. · Three (3) years of experience in field of bioinformatics, statistics, or related field. · U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident only due to funding restrictions. Preferred Qualifications: · Published manuscripts in high-impact scientific journals. · Previous bioinformatics expertise that is focused on human studies Hands-on experience with SOL and/or R is highly preferred. · Experience with using remote high performance computing connections for computationally extensive bioinformatics. · Familiarity with other programming/statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, Python, Stata, SPSS, R) is a plus. · Ability to create automated reports and perform intermediate coding for statistical and data analysis workflows. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: · Strong understanding of programming syntax, logic, and data manipulation principles. · Ability to select and apply appropriate statistical methods for basic and intermediate analyses. · Familiarity with data system design, informatics, and data visualization tools and practices. · Ability to debug and review coding by peers and collaborators. · Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. · Skilled in summarizing and presenting complex information in a clear, organized way. · Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently as needed. · Excellent time management and multitasking skills; able to manage multiple deadlines with oversight. · High attention to detail and strong organizational skills. · We are looking for an innovative and collaborative scientist or engineer with both the background and the vision to help build a globally recognized research program. · Further, we seek someone committed to excellence in complex interdisciplinary research on brain health. | |
