Role Description

The Medical Director provides strategic oversight and clinical leadership across all RHRC programs to advance clinical transformation within the rural communities it supports. The Medical Director works collaboratively with organizational leadership, program leaders, and rural health providers to develop pragmatic clinical strategies that support delivery system transformation in rural communities. The Medical Director also provides oversight into quality improvement efforts across RHRC programs and clinical quality reporting that may be required to meet contractual obligations.

  • Provides physician leadership across programs as a senior clinical authority for safe, evidence-based patient-centered care across inpatient and outpatient clinical services.
  • Serves as the chief strategist to support RHRC clinical strategy advancement, including the development of planning documents.
  • Provides subject matter expertise in aligning quality improvement and population health efforts within alternative payment frameworks.
  • Guides clinical service line development based on community needs and access gaps (i.e. primary care, behavioral health, telehealth, obstetrics).
  • Monitors clinical performance, analyzes quality metrics, and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Serves as a member of program teams.
  • Supports value-based care readiness and population health initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Osteopathic Medicine (DO), an active, unrestricted state medical license.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, preferably within a rural setting.
  • Strong knowledge of population health and value-based care initiatives.
  • Knowledge of patient-centered medical home and primary care-based value-based care programs.
  • Knowledge of alternative payment models that drive better clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in clinical best practices, and driving standardization across the healthcare delivery system.
  • Experience in medical leadership, clinical administration, or oversight of multidisciplinary care teams.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing clinical policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of a variety of electronic medical record (EMR) systems and standard medical documentation platforms preferred.
  • Must be fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • Must have reliable internet for telehealth, virtual meetings, and remote clinical oversight activities.

  • Collaborates with RHRC and administrative teams to identify clinical staffing models optimized for rural healthcare providers.
  • Supports the completion of day-to-day activities and tasks as needed to ensure the clinical program meets objectives.
  • Provides functional management to the team.

Benefits

  • Full-time, 37.5-hour workweek. This is a fully remote position.
  • The organization will also consider candidates seeking a reduced schedule of 0.6-0.8 FTE (approximately 22.5 - 30 hours).
  • Salary range: $215,000 – $228,000 annually. Compensation for reduced FTE is prorated based on hours worked.

  • Chief Administrative Officer with dotted line to Chief Executive Officer.

Work Status

  • Full-time, 37.5-hour workweek. This is a fully remote position.
  • The organization will also consider candidates seeking a reduced schedule of 0.6-0.8 FTE (approximately 22.5 - 30 hours).
