Role Description
This role provides a strategic leadership opportunity to oversee regulatory compliance and enterprise risk across Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs. The Director of EPR Compliance Risk Management will ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements while guiding the development and implementation of compliance frameworks, risk mitigation strategies, and reporting processes. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, regulators, and industry stakeholders to maintain program integrity and promote best practices. You will build and mentor a high-performing compliance team, lead enterprise-wide compliance initiatives, and influence organizational strategy at both the national and state levels. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, regulatory insight, and executive-level communication skills to ensure programs operate effectively and sustainably.
- Provide enterprise leadership for compliance strategy and execution across state and national EPR programs, ensuring full adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements
- Establish standardized national reporting frameworks, develop policies and protocols, and monitor program compliance and risk management processes
- Conduct producer reporting reviews, identify under- or over-reporting trends, and implement tools to assess compliance risks and product exemptions
- Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate compliance and risk management into operational planning and execution
- Represent the organization in industry forums and regulatory discussions, providing guidance and promoting harmonized compliance practices
- Build, mentor, and manage a team of compliance professionals, fostering accountability, innovation, and collaboration across programs
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in regulatory compliance and risk management
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, sustainability, environmental science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- Deep knowledge of EPR, product stewardship, or packaging regulatory landscapes
- Demonstrated experience with statutory/regulatory interpretation, compliance plan development, and multi-jurisdictional compliance analysis
- Strong risk assessment, audit, and compliance control experience
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to represent the organization at executive levels
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience managing cross-functional and remote teams in fast-paced, dynamic environments
