Job Description
Role Description
The Institute is looking to host several upperclassmen and graduate school students as Institute Scholar Assistants (SAs). SAs are students who are passionate about using science, technology, policy, evaluation, business analytics, healthcare, and research to enhance lives and build connections across a variety of communities and reduce disparities. Institute SAs looking to fulfill requirements for an internship placement, service learning hours, shadowing, or other experiential requirements will have the opportunity to fulfill up to 320 hours per semester (approximately 16 weeks; should be able to commit a minimum of 5 hours a week). SAs will work with Institute leadership to identify project or priority-based assignments within one or more of the five Institute Centers. SAs will generally work out of an office based in Berea, OH, or remotely depending on projects and priorities assigned. Institute Scholar Assistants will gain invaluable knowledge, experiences, and opportunities to prepare them for real-world applications following graduation.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrate the values and guiding principles of OhioGuidestone, performing with the highest standards of excellence, integrity, and ethics.
- Data management, including collection, entry, and storage; demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, electronic, and in-person).
- Ability to navigate online sources such as internet searches, social media, and webpage content.
- Review and manage high volumes of electronic communication.
- Commitment to continual learning and training.
- Regular and reliable attendance as required by management.
- Present the Agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.
- Demonstrate positive leadership, promote a team-based work environment and a culture of belonging.
- Exhibit positivity, flexibility, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
Qualifications
- Current student pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Professional, or Doctorate degree in a related field. Preferred fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Pre- or Allied Health, Public Policy/Policy Studies, Clinical Social Work, Neuroscience or Cognitive Science, Education, Health Management, Health Informatics, Communications, Organizational Development, or related areas.
- Intermediate or higher-level experience with writing in a variety of formats (e.g., online content, grants, research publications, training materials, blogs) preferred.
- Beginner or higher-level experience in statistics, policy studies, organizational development and learning, or business analytics desired.
Requirements

- Effective interpersonal skills; able to speak effectively with individuals and/or groups of people.
- Ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and good professional judgment.
- Strong organizational skills; able to handle multiple priorities with strict attention to detail and perform work independently.
- Ability to maintain relevant, timely documentation as required.
- Effective computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic health records, etc.
- Must be able to access work locations, offices, and homes as necessary, which may include ascending/descending stairs.
- Possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
- Successfully complete pre-employment screenings, including drug tests, background checks, and any other required assessments, such as a physical examination and TB test.
