Job Description
Role Description
This position is responsible for the operational excellence of our Systems and Service teams in both the US and Canada. This includes the assessment of technician skills and the creation, preparation, and delivery of Technical Training material for Employees. Topics include but are not limited to:
- Substations
- Transformers
- Relays
- Circuit Breakers
- Protection and Controls
- NFPA70E Safety
The position is also responsible for being a subject matter expert (SME) for the company locations within the region of coverage, including:
- Supporting technicians with field questions
- Creating SOPs, templates, test sheets, and reports
- Preparing technicians for certification exams
- Acting as mentors in apprentice programs
- Representing the organization at trade shows
- Building relationships with technical schools
This position reports to the Director of Operational Excellence and covers a specified region. It offers a comprehensive compensation package, including eligibility for a performance-based bonus, relocation assistance, and a sign-on bonus up to $5,000 depending on experience. The role will require approximately 35%–40% planned and scheduled travel.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- At least 8 years of relevant field experience
- NETA level 3 or 4 certification required (or equivalent certification recognized by an industry organization such as NFPA, NICET, NCEES, etc.)
- Experience with the NFPA70E Standard
- Proven expertise in common Power Systems topics
- Critical thinking, problem solving, and desire to learn
- Experience presenting to groups
- Experience training others
- Ability to accommodate and respond to unconventional training requests
- Must be able to work independently
- Passion for learning and teaching others
- Proven experience in building training programs from the ground up
- Intermediate skill level with PowerPoint, Word, Microsoft Excel; advanced skill preferred
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to adjust to changes in workflow, prioritize as needed, and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated strong sense of urgency and ownership of their process
- Must demonstrate a team player mindset
- Must be willing to travel within designated territory regularly and outside of the territory occasionally
Requirements
- Evaluate best practices in region and determine standardization plan
- Work with counterparts and company Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create field SOPs and standardized templates
- Lead process improvement initiatives
- Summarize reporting and develop recommendations to improve quality and processes
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications
- Evaluate the skills of all technicians in designated territory
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical training material
- Deliver engaging training materials through hands-on, live, and virtual training
- Schedule, coordinate, and follow-up on training for designated employees
- Act as a SME for field technicians providing just-in-time guidance
- Follow and achieve compliance, accreditation, and business goals
- Act as a mentor in the Apprentice and Mentorship Program (AMP)
- Attend trade shows and present on relevant topics
- Develop, support, evaluate, and monitor contract vendor training providers
- Other duties as assigned
