Role Description

This role provides an exciting opportunity to apply advanced learning science expertise to the design and evaluation of K–12 educational products. The Staff Learning Scientist will lead cross-functional teams to develop evidence-based learning models that guide product development and validation. You will work creatively to translate research into practical, instructionally relevant tools that enhance student learning outcomes. This position allows you to influence product strategy, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with engineers, UX researchers, and educators. It is ideal for someone passionate about literacy and learning sciences who thrives in a research-driven, impact-focused environment. The work directly supports teachers and students by shaping the tools and insights that drive instructional decisions.

  • Develop and refine K–12 student learning models grounded in educational research, with a focus on ELA constructs and their interconnections.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and analysis of research studies to validate learning models and assess student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, UX researchers, product managers, and subject matter experts to iteratively refine educational products.
  • Provide hands-on support with learning-focused research, data analysis, and product evaluation to ensure instructional relevance and efficacy.
  • Translate quantitative and qualitative research into rigorous validation studies that test and improve cognitive models of learning.
  • Mentor junior learning scientists and colleagues, fostering professional growth and enhancing team capabilities.
  • Produce clear, concise documentation of research findings, including technical reports, white papers, and internal guidance.

Qualifications

  • PhD in developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, ELA/Reading education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience, including designing or evaluating educational technology or leading funded research projects.
  • National recognition in the field through publications, grant boards, or advisory roles.
  • Deep expertise in ELA education across at least one grade band or specialized area such as literacy development, personalized learning, or classroom technology.
  • Experience applying learning sciences to educational product design, development, or evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of ELA content standards, learning progressions, and instructional implications.
  • Proficiency with quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Python), and learning science platforms.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills, with the ability to guide complex initiatives and mentor team members.
  • Creativity, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to solving learning challenges.
