Role Description
Aptive is seeking Biomedical Technicians / Equipment Support Specialists (BMETs) to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) under the Biomedical Engineering Technical Professional Support Services (BETPSS) program. These positions provide lifecycle management, maintenance, and technical support for a wide range of medical equipment used in VA medical facilities.
The Biomedical Technician / Equipment Support Specialist performs installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and documentation of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment. The role ensures medical equipment remains safe, functional, and compliant with VA biomedical engineering standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Personnel work closely with VA Biomedical Engineering staff, clinical personnel, manufacturers, and IT personnel to ensure the availability and reliability of equipment that supports patient care.
Qualifications
- Associates or higher degree in the biomedical technology or biomedical engineering field; OR
- Associates or higher degree in electronics, a field of information technology, or engineering (other than biomedical engineering) AND 1 year of creditable experience; OR
- Completion of the Department of Defense (DOD) biomedical equipment technician training program; OR
- Completion of a DOD training program in repair and maintenance of electronic systems or information technology AND 1 year of creditable experience; OR
- Completion of a biomedical engineering technician or Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) certificate program that included an internship or apprenticeship; OR
- Completion of biomedical engineering technician or HTM certificate program that did not include an internship AND 1 year of creditable experience; OR
- Hold or having ever held certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES), Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES), or Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM). Continuous maintenance of certification is not required throughout contract.
- Demonstrated competency to perform operational verification procedures, planned maintenance, and repair service on various medical equipment.
- Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry regulatory requirements and International Standard Organization standards.
- Familiarity with the setup and application of test equipment.
- Familiarity of networking principles and language (e.g., Access Control List (ACL), Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN)).
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings.

- Level I Experience - A minimum of one year of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.
- Level II Experience - A minimum of three years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.
- Level III Experience - A minimum of five years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.
