Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounting/ Business Manager to lead financial operations while serving as a key business partner to executive leadership. This role blends hands-on accounting leadership with strategic, operational, and business management responsibilities to support growth, cost control, and contract performance across transit and transportation services. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating at both tactical and strategic levels in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Lead annual operating and capital budget preparation.
- Deliver accurate, timely financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
- Analyze revenues and expenses and provide actionable profitability insights.
- Perform variance analysis and explain variances exceeding 5%.
- Support audits and ensure GAAP compliance.

Cost Control, Payroll & Cash Management
- Monitor key cost drivers including overtime, fuel, labor, and maintenance.
- Oversee payroll and benefits administration, including union wages and overtime.
- Audit payroll accuracy and HSA deductions.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, AR/AP, and line of credit activity.

Business Management & Corporate Strategy
- Keep corporate strategy on track by aligning financial, operational, and contractual execution.
- Serve as primary negotiator for contract change orders.
- Manage and oversee contract agreements, renewals, and amendments.
- Lead and support technology implementation initiatives.

Oversee corporate KPIs, including:
- Overtime trends
- Underutilization (productivity, trips, hours, FTEs)
- Key financial margins

Compliance, Documentation & Governance
- Ensure compliance with DOT, IRS, and transit funding requirements.
- Maintain active insurance coverage with no lapses.

Ensure all documentation is current and properly stored in Microsoft Teams, including:
- SOPs
- Contracts and orders change
- Insurance policies

Operational & Asset Oversight
- Maintain records for vehicles and assets, including in/out-of-service status.
- Monitor fuel usage and identify anomalies or potential theft.
- Track downtime and forecast revenue impact.

RFPs & Executive Support
- Review RFPs for scope, compliance, and financial viability.
- Partner with the CEO on pricing, responses, and prospecting.
- Support negotiations with unions, vendors, municipalities, and partners.

Technology & Process Improvement
- Oversee integration between accounting systems and operational platforms.
- Improve reporting, automation, and dashboards using Excel and Microsoft tools.
- Eliminate shadow systems and reduce manual processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or CMA preferred.
- 5–7+ years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
- Strong GAAP, reporting, and audit knowledge.
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills; QuickBooks or ERP experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a mostly remote role.
