The Manufacturing Bill of Materials (BOM) Program Leader owns how product structures are built, governed, and trusted across the enterprise. Primary Purpose of this Position:

The Manufacturing Bill of Materials (BOM) Program Leader owns and leads the end-to-end governance, accuracy, and continuous improvement of Bills of Materials across the organization. This role ensures that product structures are correct, standardized, and synchronized across engineering, ERP, MRP, PLM, and manufacturing systems to support efficient production, cost control, and supply chain execution. The position serves as the central authority for BOM strategy, process design, cross-functional alignment, and change management, enabling scalable operations and data integrity from product design through manufacturing and service.

 

Essential Responsible Areas:

  • Own enterprise-wide BOM standards, policies, and best practices
  • Define and maintain BOM structures (EBOM, MBOM, SBOM, service BOMs) and hierarchy rules
  • Establish approval workflows and data ownership models
  • Act as the final escalation point for BOM-related issues and conflicts
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, and IT
  • Lead cross-functional BOM review meetings and governance councils
  • Ensure alignment between engineering design intent and manufacturing execution needs
  • Drive accountability for BOM accuracy and timeliness
  • Ensure BOM integrity across ERP, PLM, MRP, MES, and other enterprise systems
  • Lead synchronization between engineering and manufacturing BOMs
  • Define master data rules for part numbers, revisions, alternates, and effectivity
  • Partner with IT on system enhancements, integrations, and data quality tools
  • Lead BOM readiness for New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO/ECN)
  • Ensure timely, accurate BOM releases to support production schedules
  • Establish cut-in / cut-out, revision control, and effectivity date practices
  • Minimize production disruptions caused by BOM errors or late changes
  • Partner with Finance and Supply Chain to ensure BOMs support accurate costing
  • Enable material variance analysis and cost rollups
  • Support regulatory, traceability, and audit requirements
  • Develop KPIs and dashboards for BOM health and performance
  • Identify and eliminate BOM-related root causes of scrap, rework, and shortages
  • Standardize part reuse and modular BOM strategies
  • Lead Lean, Six Sigma, and data governance initiatives related to product structures
  • Drive digital transformation of product data and master data management

Professional & Education Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, engineering operations, or master data management
  • Deep experience with BOM structures and product lifecycle processes
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and PLM systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor, NetSuite, Windchill, Teamcenter, Arena, Agile)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chain execution
  • Proven cross-functional leadership and program management experience

Compensation & Benefits:

  • This role can be based remotely; however, regular travel to Ball facilities may be required
  • Hiring Salary Range: $115,000 - $164,300 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
  • This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.]
