Job Description

About Distalmotion:

Distalmotion is a global MedTech company with a mission to expand access to the benefits of robotic surgery through simplified and flexible robotic technology. Its DEXTER® robotic surgical system empowers more surgeons and sites of care—including hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs) and ambulatory surgical centres (ASCs)—to adopt robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery.

Designed to integrate seamlessly into existing surgical workflows, DEXTER is easily moved, quickly set up, and adaptable to operating rooms of any size. The system is commercially available in the United States and Europe.

Distalmotion is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, with a U.S. office in Cleveland, Ohio.

Position Overview:

The Clinical Sales Specialist plays a critical role in driving the successful clinical adoption and utilization of the Dexter® Robotic Surgery System within an assigned territory. This position combines clinical expertise with commercial acumen to support surgeons, operating room teams, and hospital stakeholders throughout the customer journey.

The Clinical Sales Specialist partners closely with the regional commercial team to ensure successful implementation, training, and ongoing clinical support for Dexter procedures. By delivering hands-on training, providing intraoperative support, and building strong relationships with surgeons and clinical staff, the Clinical Sales Specialist helps drive procedure growth, customer satisfaction, and the expansion of robotic surgery programs.

This person is the sole responsible individual for all Distalmotion activities within their accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Support & Case Coverage

  • Provide hands-on clinical support for the Dexter installed base within the assigned territory.
  • Support surgeons and operating room staff in the safe and effective use of Dexter before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Provide on-site support during system setup, surgical procedures, and post-procedure activities to ensure optimal system usage and workflow integration.
  • Support the delivery, installation, and commissioning of Dexter systems at customer sites in collaboration with hospital BioMed teams and OR staff.
  • Ensure successful handover of the system following installation, including system readiness and operational alignment with hospital teams.
  • Train and instruct hospital Central Sterile Services / Sterile Processing Departments (SPD) on the proper reprocessing of Dexter reusable instruments.

Clinical Training & Education

  • Deliver comprehensive clinical training for surgeons and operating room teams on Dexter usage and surgical workflows.
  • Support surgeons who are new to robotic surgery as well as experienced robotic surgeons adopting Dexter across various specialties.
  • Communicate and demonstrate the clinical and operational benefits of Dexter robotic surgery to surgeons, nurses, and hospital stakeholders.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure confidence, proficiency, and long-term adoption of the platform.

Utilization & Commercial Support

  • Drive procedure utilization and growth of Dexter procedures within the assigned territory.
  • Maintain accountability for achieving procedure targets and utilization objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales Directors and Sales Managers to support commercial goals and customer success.
  • Promote new Dexter instruments, system upgrades, and product enhancements to existing customers.
  • Contribute to forecasting and reporting of expected procedure volumes and system usage.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with surgeons, OR teams, hospital leadership, and clinical stakeholders.
  • Identify and address customer needs before, during, and after system implementation.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and clinical success with the Dexter platform.
  • Develop and nurture a network of surgeons and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) within the territory to support clinical advocacy and education.

Market Development & Events (when needed)

  • Represent Distalmotion at industry conferences, trade fairs, training programs, and educational events.
  • Maintain a strong field presence to support the adoption and expansion of robotic-assisted surgery programs.
  • Support clinical demonstrations and educational activities that highlight the value of Dexter.

Job Requirements

  • Education
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience
  • Experience in medical devices, surgical robotics, or operating room environments.
  • Previous experience in clinical sales support, surgical training, or field clinical roles is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting minimally invasive surgery or robotic surgery platforms is an advantage.
  • Skills & Competencies
  • Strong clinical aptitude and ability to support surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Excellent communication, training, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with surgeons and clinical teams.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based environment while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
  • Ability to work in operating room environments, including extended surgical procedures when needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites.
