This is a mission-critical leadership role within Toast’s Retail business, reporting to the COO of Retail. You will define and drive the Retail Marketing strategy that fuels awareness, demand and revenue growth. This leader will build and lead a high-impact team who owns the full Retail marketing funnel, from acquisition to retention. You will bring a blend of strategic vision, analytical rigor, and operational excellence to elevate Toast’s retail brand and go-to-market engine in a rapidly evolving category.
We are seeking a seasoned marketing leader who thrives on analytical rigor and the challenge of owning a definitive revenue number. You have a proven track record of transforming early-stage motions into high-velocity, repeatable engines of growth. Beyond a deep understanding of omni-channel journeys, you bring a disciplined, data-first approach to demand generation and pipeline health, ensuring every marketing dollar is an optimized investment toward our aggressive retail growth targets.
A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Develop & lead a comprehensive Retail Marketing strategy that drives acquisition, engagement and revenue across retail customers
- Ensure all retail marketing strategies are aligned with revenue goals, owning full-funnel performance and metrics from lead generation to conversion and retention in close partnership with Sales, Product and Finance
- Build the operating model, analytics capabilities, measurement frameworks and data infrastructure to optimize funnel performance and confidently forecast demand and outcomes
- Champion best practices in multi-channel marketing - including digital advertising, organic content, email, field/partner programs and local campaigns - to reach and convert retail business owners
- Partner as a core member of the Retail Leadership Team to architect unified go-to-market programs; you will collaborate across the entire Retail ecosystem - from Product & Engineering to Sales & Customer Success - to ensure marketing strategies are seamlessly embedded throughout the merchant lifecycle
- Partner with the core Marketing organization to leverage global scale across brand identity, joint funnels and shared data infrastructure; you will work cross-functionally to collaborate on performance marketing best practices that drive vertical efficiency and full-funnel optimization
What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- Proven expertise in owning and delivering a definitive revenue number. You don’t just manage a budget; you manage a P&L mindset where every marketing dollar is an investment in pipeline velocity and CAC optimization
- An obsessive focus on measurement and full-funnel unit economics. You thrive on turning "messy" data into actionable insights and have a proven ability to build the technical and analytical infrastructure required for high-growth engines
- A track record of designing innovative GTM strategies that drive market differentiation. You have experience building repeatable models that are difficult for competitors to replicate, effectively "moving the goalposts" in the retail category
- Deep technical mastery across the full demand-gen stack, including the future of Inbound (SEO, Web, Traffic) and the strategic application of Paid Media across the entire funnel - from brand awareness to high-intent conversion
- Strong executive presence with a history of recruiting and coaching high-performing, "MBA-caliber" teams. You are an expert at motivating cross-functional partners towards a unified revenue goal
- You are a "builder" who thrives in early-stage environments. You have the grit and intellectual curiosity to stand up new programs, channels and operational boundaries from scratch where none existed before
- Hands-on experience leveraging marketing technology and automation to industrialize growth and drive scalable, repeatable revenue
- MBA preferred, or equivalent experience in an environment that demands high-level strategic and analytical thinking
