Job Title: Inpatient Coder II

Location: Remote

Facility: Froedtert Hospital – Academic Level I Trauma Center

Job Summary

This advanced remote position operates with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision. As an Inpatient Coder II, you will accurately assign ICD diagnosis and procedure codes along with MS-DRGs for inpatient hospital services across diverse and complex specialties, including:

- Neurology

- Oncology

- Urology

- Transplant

- Obstetrics/Newborn

- Orthopedics

- Cardiology

- Critical Care (including trauma and acutely ill patients)

Coders collaborate electronically with care providers and Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to ensure complete and precise record documentation that supports optimal DRG assignment. You’ll be responsible for resolving challenges independently, applying department coding guidelines, and meeting productivity targets with at least a 95% accuracy rate.

Accuracy is essential, as coding data directly impacts Froedtert Hospital’s financial, statistical, and quality benchmarks. Flexibility, communication, and teamwork are vital, alongside strong adaptability to evolving technologies and workflows.

Experience Requirements

Required:

- 1+ year recent inpatient coding experience in an academic medical center or

- 3+ years recent hospital inpatient coding experience

Preferred:

- 3+ years inpatient coding experience in an academic facility

Education Requirements

Required:

- Completion of Coding Certificate Program or Associate Degree in HIM (or equivalent)

Preferred:

- Bachelor’s Degree in HIM (or equivalent)

Special Skills

- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology

- Proficient in using coding tools and platforms, including encoders, EHR systems, and other relevant software

Licensure

- Active certification in RHIA, RHIT, or CCS is required

Compensation & Perks

  • Pay Range | $24.05 – $38.48 per hour (dependent on experience)
    • Compensation is based on experience and will be discussed with you by the recruiter during the interview process.
