Role Description

We are seeking a Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting to serve as a key leader within our corporate finance team. This role is designed for a technical expert who bridges the gap between complex accounting theory and the strategic execution of high-quality SEC disclosures. As a US publicly traded company, you will lead the efforts to maintain the integrity of our financial narrative. You will be responsible for navigating the evolving landscape of SEC regulations and US GAAP, ensuring that all periodic and specialized filings—from quarterly results to technical position papers—are accurate, compliant, and insightful.

SEC Reporting & External Compliance

  • SEC Filings: Prepare and coordinate key components of periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, ensuring adherence to Regulation S-X and S-K.
  • Financial Disclosures: Draft quantitative and qualitative disclosures for the consolidated financial statements and Management’s Discussion & Analysis (MD&A).
  • Compliance Monitoring: Stay abreast of new SEC interpretive releases and staff accounting bulletins, assessing their impact on the company’s reporting requirements.
  • Internal Controls: Maintain a robust control environment over the financial reporting cycle, ensuring all workpapers are audit-ready.

Technical Accounting & Policy

  • Technical Research: Perform research on complex transactions (e.g., revenue recognition, equity, or leases) and prepare concise documentation summarizing the accounting treatment.
  • Accounting Standards: Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards, coordinating with various departments to operationalize changes.
  • Audit Liaison: Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits regarding technical positions and reporting workflows.
  • Policy Maintenance: Help maintain and update the company’s accounting policies to ensure they remain aligned with current GAAP and regulatory trends.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience. A background in a mid-to-large tier public accounting firm (with SEC-registered clients) or a corporate SEC reporting role is preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Active CPA license: Required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong foundational knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting standards.
  • Experience with SEC reporting software: (e.g., Workiva, Toppan Merrill) and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).
  • Communication: Exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to distill complex regulations into clear, actionable summaries for leadership.
