Role Description
The Surveyor Hospital MD surveys health care organizations throughout the United States. Responsibilities include:
- Applying systems analysis skills and inductive reasoning skills to determine health care organizations' degree of compliance with applicable standards and functionality of care delivery systems.
- Engaging health care organization staff in interactive dialogues on standards-based issues in health care to assess compliance and identify opportunities for improving compliance.
- Preparing management reports that clearly link individual standards deficiencies with potential systems vulnerabilities and related organization risk points.
- Effectively communicating this information to health care organization leadership in a constructive and collegial style.
- Participating in other Joint Commission activities as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) required.
- Current professional license in discipline and Board Certification required at time of hire and must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.
- Five years of experience working in various components of a hospital and health care system, including:
- Three years direct clinical experience.
- Two years leadership/management experience.
- CPHQ certification (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) through National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) required at time of hire or must be attained by 12/31/28.
- Knowledge of the Joint Commission accreditation process.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal, interviewing, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
Requirements
- Must be able to observe, in real time, all applicable types of ongoing health care treatment without interrupting the progress.
- Physical abilities include:
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Walking lengthy distances.
- Lifting, climbing, stooping, pulling, and pushing to inspect and observe all medical facilities, equipment, and procedures.
- Walking up and down stairways to test escape routes and assess safety of emergency exits.
- Removing obstructed covers or impediments to equipment or other mechanical areas.
- Examining small and often dirty printed labels and print on equipment.
- Must be able to engage in extensive travel, including:
- Driving to remote locations.
- Flying on small airplanes and into small airports.
- Traveling in all types of weather conditions.
