Job Description
Role Description
A General Psychiatrist, under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director, performs psychiatric assessments and evaluations for individuals receiving mental health services. This employee ensures that all documentation of client treatment services is complete, timely, thorough, and accurate, to meet all agency, state, and professional standards.
- Provides psychopharmacological services including medication evaluation, consents, monitoring, and orders for appropriate laboratory tests.
- Reviews laboratory tests and authorizes prescriptions.
- Provides psychiatric treatment, planning, and consultation and/or coordination of care for individuals receiving services.
- Provides supervision and teaching to Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners as required by professional and agency standards.
- May provide educational presentations to agency staff and community organizations as authorized by agency administration.
- Performs other work duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess a medical degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must possess a current State of Michigan Medical License, Controlled Substance License, and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License.
- Must have certification in Adult Psychiatry through American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Inc. (ABPN), OR the ability to achieve certification within one (1) year of employment.
- Have post-graduate clinical training or one (1) year of experience in the field including diagnosing and treating persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and co-occurring disorders.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
- Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.

- Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
- Individuals in Recovery and individuals with experience in Armed Services valued.
Physical Conditions / Work Location
- An employee in this class generally performs sedentary work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
- A General Psychiatrist generally works remotely; however, travel to HealthWest locations within Muskegon County may occasionally be required.

- Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position.
- When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check.
- Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.
