Department OverviewMotorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of professional mobile communications systems with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. The group's main business is the implementation of mission critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers.
The Field Engineer will support Motorola Solutions Field Engineering T5 South team which has a territory of Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas and Iowa.
Job Description
This role is responsible for providing high-level technical support, optimization, and documentation for specialized communications systems, including complex RF and Broadband architectures, as well as essential network infrastructure.
Technical Support & Optimization:
Provide advanced technical support for specialized systems and product applications, focusing on troubleshooting software-driven electronics and optimizing performance for RF and Broadband architectures.
Work with various technologies, including legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure.
Program, configure, optimize, test, and document complex communications systems.
Develop and implement solutions for difficult technical challenges encountered during system implementation, upgrades, or support activities.
Perform preventative maintenance (PM) routines to ensure proper system operation, focusing on trend analysis and meticulous documentation of results.
Reporting:
Submit comprehensive weekly reports detailing activities and accomplishments.
Networking & IT:
Strong knowledge and proficiency in wired communications systems (LAN/WAN).
Expertise in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance, including cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges.
Ability to install server hardware/Operating Systems and software infrastructure, and troubleshoot to resolve system/application issues.
Knowledge of standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
High computer literacy, with proficiency in Google Suite platform, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
RF Communications:
Knowledge of R.F. systems, including transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.
Proficiency in using various communications test equipment.
Professional Attributes:
Strong self-management and self-motivation skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to quickly solve customer problems in high-stress situations.
Must possess a current, valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Experience
Optimization and support of complex communication systems.
Experience with unique combinations of multi-site RF communication systems and/or computer/networking skills.
Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems, and/or networking equipment.
Experience with the following equipment is desirable:
Consoles (MCC7500, MCC7100)
Channel Banks and T1 Circuits
Computer IP Networks and Configuration
RF Infrastructure Technologies
Travel/Location: The Field Engineer MUST reside in Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana or Iowa to support the Public Safety customers. The Field Engineer will be primarily be responsible for Illinois projects. The minimum travel requirement is 75% or more to support the customers in the T5 South territory.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 USD
Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
Basic Requirements
4+ years of experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, Military, Motorola equipment, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering or Networking equipment.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position
