Job Description
Derq is an MIT spinoff building AI-powered traffic safety and smart infrastructure. We’re a team of passionate innovators, leveraging the latest in AI and technology to transform the future of mobility. Our platform enhances road safety and traffic management by turning real-time data into actionable insights for cities and road operators. Our patented technology collects and analyzes data from connected sensors like cameras, radar, and traffic signal controllers to help predict and prevent road incidents. We deploy edge and cloud solutions that make intersections and highways safer and smarter.
Role Overview
We’re looking for a highly motivated and technically proficient Field Application Engineer (FAE) – Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to work hands-on at customer sites and in the field, acting as the technical bridge between customers and our internal teams. You will support the full solution lifecycle, from pre-sales technical input to deployment, integration, and post-go-live support. In this role, you’ll ensure smooth implementations, troubleshoot complex issues, and help our technology perform reliably in real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support on-site and remote deployment of our solutions across sensors, edge devices, and software platforms, including configuration, calibration, testing, and validation.
- Act as the technical point of contact during pilots, PoCs, and live implementations, owning technical execution end-to-end.
- Partner with the Project team to plan and run deployments: align scope, milestones, site readiness, risks, and action items, and provide clear status updates.
- Work closely with customers to understand technical requirements and site constraints, and translate them into deployment and integration steps.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues in the field, lead root cause analysis, and drive resolution with Engineering and Product.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Project teams to share field learnings, collect requirements, and highlight gaps for improvement.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, installation guides, and field reports to support repeatable deployments.
- Train customer teams and internal stakeholders when required.
- Provide input to pre-sales and post-sales when needed (demos, technical scoping, and RFP/RFI technical support).
Job Requirements
- Must have experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) (traffic management, smart mobility, road safety, or related deployments).
- 7+ years of experience in a Field Application Engineer, Systems Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or similar customer-facing technical role.
- Hands-on experience with field deployments: installing, configuring, and supporting hardware + software in real environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and networking (IP networks, switches/routers, VPNs, basic firewall concepts).
- Comfortable working with edge devices and Linux-based systems, including reading logs and diagnosing issues.
- Ability to work directly with customers, understand site constraints, and translate needs into clear technical actions.
- Strong documentation habits (installation guides, field reports, runbooks).
- Willingness to travel and work on-site as needed ~ 50%
