Job Description

About the Role:

Frontier Psychiatry was founded by Montana psychiatrists who recognized that children and families in rural communities often face the longest wait times—and the fewest local resources—when seeking mental health care.

To meet that need, we built a secure telepsychiatry practice that allows children, adolescents, and families to access high-quality behavioral health care from home, without referrals, and with most insurance plans accepted. Appointments are typically 60 minutes, with some 30-minute visits available based on clinical need.

We are seeking a Child & Family Therapist to deliver compassionate, developmentally grounded, evidence-based care to children, adolescents, and their caregivers across rural states, helping expand access to meaningful support in underserved communities.

What you'll do:

Mental Health Assessments:

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments for children and adolescents, and family systems, including diagnostic formulation and clinical justification
  • Utilize evidence-based, developmentally appropriate assessment tools
  • Assess family dynamics, environmental stressors, and developmental factors influencing mental health

Therapeutic Interventions:

  • Provide goal-oriented, evidence-based therapy for children, adolescents, and families through individual, family, and caregiver sessions as clinically appropriate
  • Deliver care through individual child therapy, family therapy, and caregiver sessions as clinically appropriate
  • Tailor interventions to developmental stage, family context, and treatment goals
  • Provide caregiver psychoeducation on emotional regulation, behavior management, communication, and stress reduction
  • Maintain a clear therapeutic strategy and monitor response to treatment

Treatment Planning

  • Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans with developmentally appropriate, measurable (SMART) goals
  • Collaborate with caregivers and the care team to ensure alignment and continuity of care

Crisis Intervention

  • Conduct structured risk assessments for youth experiencing acute distress or safety concerns
  • Develop safety plans involving caregivers and interdisciplinary partners
  • Coordinate use of local crisis and community resources to support safety and continuity

Care Coordination & Collaboration

  • Work closely with psychiatric providers, pediatric stakeholders, and behavioral health colleagues
  • Support referrals to community resources, schools, and family-based supports when appropriate

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete all clinical documentation within organizational timelines
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, clinically sound, and compliant with billing, regulatory, and organizational standards

Professional & Ethical Practice

  • Adhere to ethical guidelines related to child welfare, confidentiality, informed consent, and mandatory reporting
  • Participate in weekly supervision, case consultation, and clinical rounding as directed the Director of Care Management and Psychotherapy
  • Maintain flexibility in scheduling to support family access and program needs
  • Maintain CEUs and regulatory requirements
  • Be willing to obtain licensure in additional states as needed to meet clinical demand

Who Thrives in This Role

You’ll do well here if you:

  • Enjoy working with children, adolescents, and families
  • Value caregiver engagement as part of treatment
  • Value collaboration and integrated care
  • Practice with patience, structure, and compassion
  • Appreciate the flexibility and autonomy of remote work while maintaining strong clinical boundaries

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from a CSWE- or CACREP-accredited institution
  • Independently licensed as an LCSW or LCPC in Montana, Idaho, Nevada, or Alaska at time of hire
  • Demonstrated experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and families
  • Strong foundation in evidence-based child and family modalities
  • Proficiency with telehealth platforms and electronic documentation system
  • For LCPC applicants: completion of the NCE or NCMHCE. Candidates who have not yet taken the NCMHCE must be eligible and willing to complete it if required for licensure in additional states.

We believe sustainable care for families starts with well-supported clinicians.

  • 100% remote work
  • 120 hours of paid vacation
