RESPONSIBILITIES
The Opportunity
As Executive Vice President, Employee Benefits, you will be responsible for utilizing field and regional insights to set the strategic direction of the Employee Benefits practice and drive profitable growth across the organization. You will partner closely with national and regional leadership to implement initiatives that increase retention; drive expanded net commission and fee growth and expand Alera Group's carrier partnership programs. A key focus of this role is enabling growth by equipping producers and service professionals with the tools, resources, and support they need to deliver exceptional value and outcomes.
This role offers full P&L ownership for the National Employee Benefits practice and the ability to directly influence corporate earnings, talent development, and long-term enterprise value.
Strategic Growth & Market Impact
- Set and execute the national strategy for Employee Benefits, leveraging field and regional insights to drive profitable growth
- Partner with Managing Directors, Regional Practice Leaders, Producers, and Executive Leadership to increase new sales, expand net commission and fee revenue, and strengthen client retention
- Launch and lead growth initiatives that enable teams to deepen client relationships and expand carrier partnerships, with success measured by organic net cash flow growth and corporate earnings
- Develop and communicate compelling, consistent service delivery models tailored to client segments
- Build and own intellectual capital for the Employee Benefits practice, including tools, solutions, and best practices that fuel growth and enhance the Alera Group brand
- Stay ahead of industry trends, competitive strategies, and healthcare market shifts, proactively translating insights into actionable initiatives
Leadership, Talent & Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing national and regional Employee Benefits leadership team
- Establish clear goals, metrics, and accountability within a performance-driven culture
- Foster collaboration across regions while respecting the entrepreneurial spirit of local offices
Operational & Financial Stewardship
- Oversee all regional Employee Benefits operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and the highest ethical standards
- Maintain full responsibility for the National Employee Benefits P&L, aligning performance with Alera Group’s strategic growth objectives
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Bring
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in employee benefits consulting, ideally within a middle‑market or large‑group retail brokerage environment
- Proven success in a senior executive or national practice leadership role, with demonstrated ability to drive growth at scale
- Deep expertise in employee benefits plans, healthcare trends, and insurance/benefits legislation
- Strong track record of building and leading teams, influencing senior stakeholders, and executing enterprise-wide strategy
- Experience in a PE‑backed, fast‑growing organization strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or graduate degree preferred
- Professional certifications (e.g., CEBS) and Life & Health licenses strongly preferred

Perks & Benefits
This job is fully remote.
Salary range is $300,000 to $375,000 per year. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.
