Job Description

• Oversee implementation of a comprehensive issue advocacy and electoral strategy aligned with the organization's mission and goals in the campaign’s core regions (Louisiana, Ohio River Valley, and Texas). • Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations, consultants, and key stakeholders to support the advocacy and electoral strategy. • Work closely with staff monitoring state and local legislative and political developments and provide strategic guidance and analysis. • Promote a culture of organizational compliance with applicable regulations. • Conduct research and analysis on decision-makers and electoral candidates in target regions. • Advise campaign and communications staff on issue-based advocacy campaigns, including organizing, mobilization efforts, and voter engagement initiatives. • Establish, track, and analyze progress toward People Over Pollution’s goals and produce metrics and dashboards to track goal progress. • Collaborate with the communications team to develop and disseminate messaging and materials related to advocacy and electoral efforts. • Provide political analysis and recommendations to inform strategic decision-making.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of six years of experience working in political advocacy, campaign management, or government relations, focusing on environmental or climate-related issues.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful political strategies, including candidate endorsements, issue-based campaigns, and grassroots organizing.
  • Strong knowledge of the political landscape in Louisiana, the Ohio River Valley (OH, PA, WV) and/or Texas, including a good understanding of state politics and environmental laws and policy.
  • Experience developing voter outreach or advocacy campaigns, including familiarity with tools such as EveryAction and Votebuilder (VAN).
  • A solid understanding of 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and writing skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to comprehend and evaluate a significant volume of written materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, including community members, grassroots leaders, elected leaders, and government agencies.
  • Ability to respond rapidly and appropriately to changing priorities, objectives, and situations; a self-starter with a sense of initiative and good judgment.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
